Microlab ( VoltToMidi)   MTV lab (Midi To Volt lab)
  mtvlab

The MicroLab is an electronic interface, which converts external processes (read voltage changes) into MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). The MicroLab / MTV-lab are especially created for students at the Royal Conservatory (Sonology, Composition, Art of Sound) and the Interfaculty of Image and Sound. In these departments Electronic music is composed, new images are being made and multimedia installations are being build. Much of the electronics is based upon “self built electronic-instruments”, communicating with a computer, sampler or other MIDI-device. To make the communication possible between an instrument and a MIDI-device, the MicroLab / MTV-lab can be used.

The MicroLab converts incoming voltage changes into 7-bit serial data (MIDI).
>With the new software update, a resolution of 10 bits is possible (1024 steps). When a voltage between 0V and 5V is supplied to one of the 32 inputs, the MicroLab generates MIDI-controller output, with a value equivalent to the DC-value. It only sends MIDI when the input-value changes. Example : a dc-change on input 3 from 0V to 5V results in Midi controller number 3 sending values between 0 and 127  (0-1024). External processes are measured with sensors or actuators.

The MicroLab is developed and designed at the technical department of Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Holland.

With the Midi To Voltage lab, or MTV lab, it is possible to convert incoming controller Midi information from a computer or other midi device, into voltage change (0-10V). This is realised with 16 DA convertors and a resolution of 10 bit.

The MTV-lab is especially created for students at the Royal Conservatory (Sonology, Composition, Art of Sound) and the Interfaculty of Image and Sound. In these departments Electronic music is composed, new images are being made and multimedia installations are being build. Much of the electronics is based upon “self built electronic-instruments”, communicating with a computer, sampler or other MIDI-device.

Like the Microlab, the MTV lab is developed at the Institute of Sonology, Royal Conservatory in The Hague Holland.
